History of the Game of Tiddly
Tiddly was a very popular game in Carbonear but also in other areas off the Avalon Peninsula such as Fogo, White Bay, Springdale and various parts of Trinity Bay and the Southern Shore. The game is believed to have been transported to Newfoundland in Elizabethan times from either England or Ireland. According to some research, Argentia (known originally as “Petit Plaisance”) was where the game first surfaced in Newfoundland. It spread to other areas and each community had their own variation on the ‘rules’.
