Providing public awareness and education related to violence prevention for the Western Avalon region. We operate under the Violence Prevention Initiative, a provincial government partnership led by the Women's Policy Office.
The Purpose of the Trinity Conception Placentia Health Foundation is to assist Eastern Health in providing the citizens of the area with the best possible medical and hospital care. The Foundation achieves this objective by funding modern patient-care facilities and equipment.
Its Board of Directors include involved members, representatives of the community, working in close cooperation with medical and administrative staff.
Tutoring takes place in the Trinity - Conception region (Georgetown - Bay-de-Verde - Blaketown) with sessions arranged between the assigned tutor and the learner at a place of mutual convenience. Books and learning materials are available free of charge and certificates are awarded at each level.
The Bayshore Adult Literacy Council exists to assist adults with their basic reading and writing, by providing free, confidential, one-on-one tutouring to adults (18+) who would like to develop or improve their reading and writing skills.
The Bayshore Adult Literacy Council also sponsors a Summer Reading for Fun program which is a province-wide program providing one-on-one tutoring for school children during the summer break. It is designed to bridge the gap between June and September by keeping kids interested in reading throughout the summer through activities, games and reading support.

The home is named for Sister Magdalene O'Shaughnessey who sent the first Presentation Sisters to open a convent in Carbonear. Sister Magdalene O'Shaughnessey's spirit of commitment and service to those in need, and her strength as a woman, will continue to inspire and bless all those who will work and seek shelter at O'Shaugnessey House.
O’Shaugnessey House, a safe and secure transition house for women and children escaping violence, was officially opened in Carbonear, NL on September 24, 2010. It is a 15 bed transition house that will provide 24 hour emergency ac commodation and a crisis telephone line, crisis intervention and prevention, food, shelter and referrals to appropriate services such as housing, income support, employment and legal services.
