Awards and Recognition of the Carbonear Heritage Society
The Southcott Award
The Carbonear Heritage Society was awarded The Southcott Award in 1988. This award acknowledged the dedication of the society in improving the quality of built heritage by the restoration of the Railway Station. The Carbonear Heritage Society was the first group outside of St. John's to receive this award.
On June 23, 1987, the Carbonear Railway Station was designated a Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
National Historic Significance
On September 23, 2000, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada designated the Railway Station as the Representative Railway Station for Newfoundland. This is the second national recognition for Carbonear, the first being that of Carbonear Island.
The D.W. Prowse Award
On May 4, 1991, the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador presented this award to the members of the Price of Fish Committee which included the Carbonear Heritage Society.
