Town of Carbonear - Facilities

The Princess Sheila NaGeira Theatre is a 384 seat, air conditioned and wheelchair accessible facility, set in the heart of the Baccalieu Trail Region. The theatre, which is located in the Conception Bay Regional Community Centre at 256 Water Street in Carbonear, has perhaps one of the most beautiful outdoor settings in the province. The same building houses the Community Access Centre / the Carbonear Public Library, and the Carbonear Municipal Offices and Chambers. (The Community Access Centre offers broadband Internet connections for public use, with one special facility with adaptive technology for persons with physical disabilities.) In addition to theatre events and community events, during the spring each year, the Kiwanis Music Festival is held in the Theatre.

Directly facing the Carbonear harbour, the Conception Bay Regional Community Centre is adjacent to the extensive George W. Earle Promenade which encircles the Ponds. Next door to the Conception Bay Regional Community Centre is the town museum which is located in the old Railway Station Building.

The Rorke Premises, which is just a little further down Water Street, is a historic building constructed between 1860 and 1874. During the summer the Rorke Premises hosts a number of plays and other events.

Carbonear offers facilities for wide range of activities for citizens of all ages. The Recreation Complex features a year round indoor swimming pool, 2 softball fields, track and field facilities, a soccer field, 4 tennis courts, and an outdoor venue: Paddy's Garden.
There are sports and youth groups, church and community groups and service groups such as the Kiwanis Club and the Knights of Columbus.
